In this example, the hyperlink is a single word link and when you click the link it may take you to another page on the website or to another business or organization’s website.

Why hyperlink?

For a blogger or web writer, when you quote another person’s work, using a hyperlink is like a footnote. You give credit to the source of your information and also lead readers to get more detailed information on a particular subject.

For example, in our post on Why You Need Images For Your Blogpost we added a hyperlink to the words Istockphoto and Istockphotos. When you click on these two links, they will open up another page to Istockphoto’s website.

How to add hyperlinks to your blog post that will allow your readers to open to another page without losing the original page:

It is important to keep your readers on your website. You do not want them to click on a hyperlink to another website and stay away from your page or completely forget about your website.

Here are the steps to have a hyperlink that opens to another page:

Choose the word you want to hyperlink.
Copy the URL of the website or page you want to hyperlink.
Highlight the chosen word for hyperlink.
Click on the icon on your WordPress blog, look at screenshot of the blue round chains, third from your right side on the second row.

You have created a hyperlink!

If you are writing a free report using Microsoft Word, you could create hyperlinks as well. You will use the same first 3 steps and look for the word INSERT on the top of your screen, click on it and choose hyperlink to insert your chosen URL.

Hyperlinks are also important if you want readers to refer to your product or service pages, your free report, Facebook page or to read important previous blog posts.
