Starr is my father in law’s first name, my brother in law’s first name and of course my wife, Mary Starr. It has been a family name for more than a century. My wife started her wellness business, StarrHealth in 2002 in honor of her dad who was a Health Teacher and Coach for more than 40 years. In 2006, I started another Hosting company naming it Starr Host and in 2009 Starr Investments was started.
It’s not the name of the business that matters but something that does matter is your WHY? Why are you starting or growing your business?
For those of you who haven’t guessed yet from my Facebook posts, I am a dad and I love being a dad. It really is besides God and my marriage the best thing in my life.
My Why?
It’s also my why. My why of why I do what I do. Of course I like helping people, I like seeing a Starr Host clients grow from a few hundred dollars in online sales to a few thousands of dollars a month, I like figuring out problems, but my why I do all this is because of my family.
I want to provide for them, I want them to be happy, but more importantly I want to raise them up to be their best. Part of that raising up will be learning and working in our family businesses. They won’t be handed a position, they will earn and learn their way.
Maybe they will continue to work in the Starr businesses, maybe they won’t, but they will have learned qualities and skills of leadership, authority, strength of character and more. This is my Why I do what I do.
What’s your WHY?
Why are you growing a business? Why are you consistently taking your time, money and energy day after day to take the actions to grow this business? You’ve got to have a strong why? Don’t just say because I want to be rich or I want to help people. Keep going when you come up with an answer. I will tell you from my own experiences that when you don’t have a strong WHY, you are apt not to give it your best or worse quit. And a strong why doesn’t have to be about other people, but it has to be a strong conviction inside of you.
